چکیده

The radial velocities of 1800 nearby Sun-like stars are currently being monitored by eight high-sensitivity Doppler exoplanet surveys. Approximately 90 of these stars have been found to host exoplanets massive enough to be detectable. Thus, at least 5% of target stars possess planets. If we limit our analysis to target stars that have been monitored the longest ( 15 years), 11% possess planets. If we limit our analysis to stars monitored the longest and whose low surface activity allows the most precise velocity measurements, 25% possess planets. By identifying trends of the exoplanet mass and period distributions in a subsample of exoplanets less biased by selection effects and linearly extrapolating these trends into regions of parameter space that have not yet been completely sampled, we find that at least 9% of Sun-like stars have planets in the mass and orbital period rangesM sin i > 0:3MJup and P < 13 years and at least 22% have planets in the larger range M sin i > 0:1MJup and P < 60 years. Even this larger area of the log(mass)-log(period) plane is less than 20% of the area occupied by our planetary system, suggesting that this estimate is still a lower limit to the true fraction of Sun-like stars with planets, which may be as large as 100%. گاه‌های آفرینشی در برخی از فرش‌های شیری فارس

The common element in the Persian Shiri carpets is lion, sometimes accompanied with Sword and full or half sun. Sword is a symbol of power & war and Sun is a symbol of Imam Ali (PBUH). In addition to lion and sun, pictures of lion-cow-attack, with their ancient history in Iranian art, are represented in Fars’ Shiri carpets in other methods. For this reason, calendar, changes of seasons & ...

The depth of the heavens: Belief and knowledge during 2500 years

We see the Sun, Moon. and stars in the heavens as if placed on the inside of a sphere. But even early man had ideas about the distances to these heavenly objects. The Greek philosopher Anaxagoras living in Athens 2500 years ago claimed that the Sun is a fiery rock larger than the whole Peloponnesian peninsula. This implies a distance to the Sun larger than 20,000 km. Anaxagoras. however, was ac...

Planetary accretion in the inner Solar System

Unlike gas-giant planets, we lack examples of terrestrial planets orbiting other Sun-like stars to help us understand how they formed. We can draw hints from elsewhere though. Astronomical observations of young stars; the chemical and isotopic compositions of Earth, Mars and meteorites; and the structure of the Solar System all provide clues to how the inner rocky planets formed. These data hav...

Occurrence and core-envelope structure of 1-4× Earth-size planets around Sun-like stars.

Small planets, 1-4× the size of Earth, are extremely common around Sun-like stars, and surprisingly so, as they are missing in our solar system. Recent detections have yielded enough information about this class of exoplanets to begin characterizing their occurrence rates, orbits, masses, densities, and internal structures. The Kepler mission finds the smallest planets to be most common, as 26%...

Suppression of the water ice and snow albedo feedback on planets orbiting red dwarf stars and the subsequent widening of the habitable zone.

M stars comprise 80% of main sequence stars, so their planetary systems provide the best chance for finding habitable planets, that is, those with surface liquid water. We have modeled the broadband albedo or reflectivity of water ice and snow for simulated planetary surfaces orbiting two observed red dwarf stars (or M stars), using spectrally resolved data of Earth's cryosphere. The gradual re...
